Theme: “Eyes on diabetes”

TECHDaer  Services Limited  on the 14th of November, 2016 joined the World in marking the World Diabetes Day, the event took place at the TECHDaer Base. As a way of uniting with the world in the fight against  diabetes, TECHDaer personnel were dressed in white T-shirts  crested with  the world diabetes day logo and theme.

The theme of the World Diabetes Day 2016 was “Eyes on Diabetes”,  it’s focus was on promoting the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and treatment to reduce the risk of serious complications.

Diabetes is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, blindness, kidney failure and lower-limb amputation. Over one third of all people currently living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes will develop some form of damage to their eyes that can lead to blindness. These complications can be prevented or delayed by maintaining blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels as close to normal as possible. Many complications can be picked up in their early stages through screening, so that treatment can be given to prevent them becoming more serious.

A medical personnel from one of our retainership clinic Dr Nnamdi  Iloeje from St. Martins Hospital  spoke on diabetes, he explained the two types of diabetes, causes and symptoms. He stressed that medications and life style adjustment are the best ways to manage a diabetic condition..
